WatchMojo Spotlight: The 10 Best Off-the-Radar Summer TV Shows (2018)
(Review is for the first two seasons only) I came into this show not expecting to like it, but the plot, acting, and cinematography are fantastic. It’s basically Montana mob warfare with the occasional heavy dose of testosterone (cowboys with rifles on horseback fishing)! Costner is the lead actor because Dutton is the lead actor.
The show gets heavy at the beginning of season 2, but picks up halfway through
The show is at its best when it features the Duttons and their enemies on the board. Kelsey Asbill is the weakest link as Monica and plays the bad hand poorly, the plot is awkwardly thrown around and the acting just doesn’t hit the mark. Cole Hauser as Rip might be the strongest performance in my opinion (other than Costner) and I can’t wait to see all the scenes Rip was in.
Thomas Rainwater is also fantastic
The plot is lively and the scenery is beautiful. Like Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses; which was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show is similar. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it..
