Essex and Wales collide as Gavin and Stacey fall in love, taking their friends, family and luggage with them. With the exception of the scenes filmed in London in the first episode, the entire series was filmed in Wales, including the scenes in Essex. The house used as the Shipmans’ (Gavin’s) home is in Dinas Powys, a village 1 mile northwest of Barry, where the Wests (Stacey’s) live. In season 3, Bryn and Gavin’s car registration numbers are completely different from previous episodes. Gavin’s blue Saxophone has been upgraded from a T-reg (MY 1999) to an X-reg (MY 2000). Bryn’s green Picasso has been upgraded from a CV02 (MY 2002, registered in Cardiff) to an HV54 (MY 2004, registered in Portsmouth). They are clearly different cars. I have to say I don’t really understand the previous reviewer as I think they are on a different planet to everyone else and I felt compelled to set the record straight. Gavin & Stacey is one of the best comedies I have seen in recent years. It has a wonderful cast and a brilliant script by Ruth Jones and James Corden. The programme revolves around Gavin (an Essex boy) and Stacey (a receptionist from Barry Island) who start their relationship over the phone while at work. The reviews for the series were so good that a second series has already been ordered.
