Bug doesn’t have much time for them

Story

Bailey lives with her brother Hunter and father Bug, who is raising them alone in north Kent. Bailey is looking elsewhere for attention and adventure. Barry Keoghan dropped out of Gladiator II (2024) and starred in this film instead.

There are two amazing performances to enjoy in this twelve-year Bailey story. (Nikki Adams). She lives squatting with her dad "Bug" (Barry Keoghan), brother "Hunter" (Jason Buda) and her soon-to-be stepmother "Kayleigh" (Frankie Box).

It is there that she encounters the rather enigmatic “Bird”; (Franz Rogowski) who is looking for her parents who lived in Gravesend Tower near her home

That impending wedding, and wearing a pretty pink cat suit, puts her at odds with her well-meaning dad and sees her left to frolic in the fields of Kent. She decides to try to help this rather strange lad, and soon their lives become curiously intertwined as we learn that her mother (Jasmine Jobson) is struggling with a torrid relationship with a boy called Skate; (James Nelson-Joyce) while also trying to raise three youngsters. With the search for her new friend’s parents, the desire to help her mother and siblings, and the pressure on her father to get involved in her own hopes for happiness, young Bailey has no challenges to seek.

freedom, family and quite often fun

Keoghan zips energetically around the housing estates on his e-scooter, and his character does a great job of keeping the main characters alive – and it’s on that front that Adams and Adams develop a charmingly understated chemistry. Rogowski, who mixes their respective stories with a soup of mysticism and plenty of allegorical imagery to present rather elusive themes. There are also some pretty raunchy undertones, and we have no doubt that her and her family’s lives have been and will continue to be pretty troubled, but those things aren’t brought to us through the hammer, but through gentle observation and the development of engaging personalities that develop gently but powerfully over the course of a couple of hours.
