This is the first animated film by Michel Khazanavichius
During the war, a poor woodcutter and his wife live in a large forest. One day, a woman finds and rescues a little girl, making irreversible changes in the lives of the couple and those whose paths the child crosses.
This is the best 2024 premiere I’ve seen this year, and it’s already mid-December 2024
It tells a story that takes place in Poland during the Second World War, almost like a popular story. Most of the plot unfolds in the forest, which is typical of the popular stories mentioned above, and revolves around a couple of loggers who adopt a Jewish girl who was thrown from the deportation train that cut through their forest.
From the technical side, too, everything is done perfectly
Her father threw her out to save her from certain death in Auschwitz. I will not go into the details of the plot so that you can see for yourself, I just want to add that the film will come to a deeply philosophical conclusion.
The visual effects in the film are brilliantly executed
The drawing style is correct, not too detailed and not too rough, mainly showing the walls in low light with dominant shades of gray, thereby emphasizing the horrors of the most shameful war and mass extermination in the history of mankind. And there’s a great soundtrack: music, sound effects, narration and dubbing (I saw the original version in French), everything fully corresponds to the presentation of this gem of a film.
Overall, this is one of the best films about racism and the Holocaust in particular, thanks to its artistic approach and the story it wants to tell
